Three courses,
one writing workshop
Three term courses from age 6 to 18, plus the writing workshop. All groups rehearse in the same room in Währing from October 2026.

Three courses.
Three ways onto the stage.
From the first game to the big summer production. At gutgebrüllt children and young people discover how ideas become characters, characters become scenes and a group becomes an ensemble.
A new place. More room for theatre.
From October all three groups rehearse in the movement room of the Semmelweis Clinic in Währing. The bright room with its parquet floor offers plenty of space for movement, play and focused rehearsal work.

Course A
Theatre from scratch
A chair becomes a throne, a jacket becomes a cloak, and out of an idea a scene suddenly appears.
In course A children learn to act from the ground up and find out what is possible on a stage. They slip into roles, play with voice and movement and let scenes grow out of the moment. The joy of trying things out together comes first.
Nobody needs to be able to do anything yet. One idea may grow, another may be dropped. What matters is the urge to give your own imagination a shape.
This is where the way into theatre begins at gutgebrüllt.

Course B
A school year for one play
A play does not fall from the sky. It grows out of ideas, detours and many rehearsals, until a scene suddenly works.
In course B the group stays together for a whole school year. The children improvise, develop roles and gradually build their own play out of their ideas. A theatre educator leads the rehearsals and accompanies the group from the first idea to the performance. Everyone contributes and becomes part of the shared play.
Along the way the children learn to shape a role over a longer time, to respond to one another and to work together towards a performance.
In June the result goes on stage: the group performs its production in public on the theatre wagon, in front of family, friends and audience.

Course C
gutgebrüllt is building a new youth ensemble
Take the chance and join in!
Dreaming of the Burgtheater is allowed. Here, though, it starts with the craft. Theatre does not begin in the spotlight. It begins at rehearsal.
You develop roles and scenes, work with texts and train voice, speech, body and stage presence. You learn to listen closely, to react clearly on stage and to sustain a character over time. Working on voice and body also builds confidence in speaking and presenting away from the stage.
The first term is devoted to acting training and ends with a closing presentation. In the second term the ensemble works on the annual gutgebrüllt summer production under professional direction and with an assistant director.
Important for the second term
Theatre is made together and needs commitment. Signing up for the second term is a binding decision for the whole run, from the first production rehearsals to the last performance. The full rehearsal and performance dates are announced before registration for the second term opens.

Summer holidays
Three theatre weeks
This is what a summer week with us looks like: a day camp for ages 8 to 12, Monday to Friday, with meals and a closing showcase. Dates for next summer will be announced in spring.
If you carry stories that want telling, know characters that want playing and have feelings looking for an outlet, join us for a summer theatre week. Nowhere else is there this much playing in so few days. New games every day, new scenes, different exercises.
